This training program is fortunate to be located in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT, with ready access to numerous outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking, mountain biking, mountain climbing, and camping.
Life in Salt Lake is spectacular.
The peaks of the Wasatch mountains are always visible and, just minutes away. Salt lake's location nestled at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains offers unparalleled access to the outdoors and mountain activities. Whether you're into hiking, biking, camping, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing it's literally only minutes away from the hospital. Having a world class playground out your back door means you can quit planning trips to ski unbelievable powder, ride classic single-track, or climb beautiful peaks; you can do it post-call on a Tuesday afternoon.
You will be skiing or riding in Utah's famous snow at any one of the 7 resorts within 30 minutes of St. Marks Hospital.

Community activities in Salt lake are plentiful. The Hogle Zoo and the children's museum are favorites for many families. Spend Saturday morning at the farmer's market or a day at Pioneer State Park. Snowbird hosts an annual Bluegrass Festival and an Octoberfest celebration.
Salt Lake also boasts some of the best and most accessible back-country skiing and riding in the world.
Hiking and Biking around Salt Lake starts right up the street from St. Marks in Mill Creek Canyon with countess trailheads and picnic areas. The other canyons just a few miles north and south of us also have innumerable trails to explore.
Some of the many trails worth looking into are Grandeur Peak, Cecret Lake, Lake Blanche, White Pine Lake, Red Pine Lake, Twin Lakes, the Wasatch Crest (epic mountain biking), Dog Lake, Desolation Lake, Lake Mary, Mount Superior, Catherine's Pass, Bell's Canyon, Neff's Canyon and countless others all within 30 minutes. Southern Utah and other ranges such as the Wind Rivers in Wyoming also offer phenomenal hiking.
Salt Lake isn't just a mountain town. For great spectator sports it's the home of the NBA's Utah Jazz, MLS's Real Salt Lake, and all of the University of Utah sports. For those who would rather play than watch, there are great recreational leagues for soccer, softball, hockey etc. and there are several nice golf courses.
We have an active and diverse music scene. There are some great free concerts downtown at the Galivan Center, big names at the outdoor amphitheater at Red Butte Gardens and at the Energy Solutions Arena. Abravanel Hall is home to the world class Utah Symphony and Capital Theater hosts all of the traveling broadway shows and is home to Ballet West and performs "The Nutcracker" every December. Several small bars have frequent live music- check out The Bayou and Suede.
Salt Lake is also home to The Sundance Film Festival every year with premiers of hundreds of the world's best independent films.
Utah is home to 5 spectacular national parks including Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capital Reef. Moab, the red rock of southern Utah, and Lake Powell are only a few hours away.
Overall, Salt Lake enables residents to lead the balanced life that is necessary to stay happy and sane during their training.
